In this short course we will build a small frame in green oak, converted on site, as a practice piece, giving students an understanding of the scribe rule & traditional layout with an emphasis on contemporary frame construction. You will layout, mark and cut traditional mortise and tenon, lap dovetail and scarf joints in large section green timber. Ways and examples of 'finishing' frames will also be shown and discussed. It's hands-on as we work with both traditional and modern tools and we'll demonstrate how quality frames can be competitively produced. The purchase and maintenance of tools will also be discussed along with areas such as the conversion and arrangement of timber and land and planning issues for various types of construction.

We'll eat round the camp fire with a delicious lunch provided every day - camp for free or B&B locally. A friendly local pub is on hand for evening meals and the odd beverage. Onsite cooking facilities are also available. Meet like minded people and make important local contacts in the rapidly expanding timber framing industry (currently experiencing a shortage of skilled framers) and many other wood related areas.

The courses will take place outdoors at Waterslade Wood Yard in the beautiful Devon countryside. Tools and materials are provided. Steel toe cap boots and all weather clothing is essential.
Further courses may run later in the year - the times and locations of which will depend on demand.
